These include congenital anomalies affecting the heart&#8217;s electrical activity, such as <b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"182\">Congenital Long QT Syndrome (LQTS)<\/b>, <b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"218\">Brugada Syndrome<\/b>, and <b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"240\">Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome<\/b>. Although these conditions are relatively rare, early detection through pediatric screenings represents a vital preventive measure.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">Many children lead completely normal lives\u2014attending school, participating in sports, and showing no apparent symptoms. Because of this asymptomatic nature, school screening programs and prevention initiatives offer an essential opportunity for medical evaluation, raising awareness, and conducting further diagnostic assessments.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">Driven by this awareness, the <b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"30\">&#8220;La Scuola nel Cuore&#8221; (The School in the Heart)<\/b> project was launched. This cardiovascular prevention initiative was promoted by the Municipality of Capannoli and delivered completely free of charge by <b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"231\">MiniHospital<\/b>, involving its expert cardiologists, nursing staff, and medical facilities.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h2>The &#8220;La Scuola nel Cuore&#8221; Project Overview<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18\">The operational phase of the project took place between April 16 and May 28, 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"19\">Developed under the scientific supervision of <b data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"46\">Dr. Carlo Giustarini<\/b>, Cardiologist and Medical Director of MiniHospital, the initiative aimed to evaluate the prevalence of congenital electrocardiogram (ECG) anomalies in children aged 6 to 11 attending the Primary School of the Istituto Comprensivo di Capannoli.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20\">Beyond immediate prevention, the project also sought to contribute to data collection for an age group where scientific literature still offers limited data. Therefore, the initiative serves as an essential framework for observation and knowledge, benefiting both the local community and the wider scientific and healthcare sectors.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h2>Results of the Pediatric Heart Screening<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<p data-path-to-node=\"23\">Out of a target student population of 258 children, 67 students participated in the screening, representing a <b data-path-to-node=\"23\" data-index-in-node=\"110\">24% participation rate<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"24\">The analysis of the electrocardiograms revealed <b data-path-to-node=\"24\" data-index-in-node=\"48\">no significant ECG abnormalities<\/b> within the examined group.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"25\">For two children, as a precautionary and comprehensive measure, it was deemed appropriate to provide a free specialized follow-up, which included a pediatric cardiology consultation and a color Doppler echocardiogram. Both subsequent assessments successfully ruled out any underlying heart conditions.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"26\">This outcome highlights a crucial aspect of healthcare initiatives: a screening program does not aim to provide a final diagnosis, but rather to identify specific cases that warrant specialist evaluation, ensuring timely care whenever necessary.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"27\">Even when medical tests return normal results, as they did in this project, the value of the initiative remains high.
