Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa.
Specialized, with honors, in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, and in Internal Medicine–Emergency Medicine.
Former Head of the Digestive Endoscopy and Gastroenterology Unit at the hospitals of Pontedera and Volterra, ASL Toscana Nord Ovest, and former Corporate Head of Hospital and Home Clinical and Artificial Nutrition for the Pisa area.

The main areas of interest of his scientific activity have included both clinical aspects (studies in gastrointestinal pathophysiology; inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the digestive system; and hepatology) and healthcare organization (accreditation, hospital organization by intensity of care, clinical risk management, management of hospital admissions, local implementation plans for Digestive Endoscopy and Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, and Clinical and Artificial Nutrition in hospitals and in the community).
He has participated in numerous courses, congresses, conferences, and seminars as a speaker, lecturer, and moderator, with international experience at the Department of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto (Canada), and at Klinikum Universitäts-Magdeburg (Germany).
He completed the training course “DRGs and Management Control in Gastroenterology” at the SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan, and a Project Management course for colorectal cancer screening at the CSPO (Oncological Prevention Center) of Careggi University Hospital, Florence, contributing to the activation of regional colorectal cancer screening programs in Tuscany.
He obtained a Master’s degree in the joint Advanced Course “Management of the Complex Patient: Appropriateness and Competence,” promoted by FADOI, the Ministry of Health–AGENAS, Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, Carlo Cattaneo University–LIUC of Castellanza, and Bocconi University of Milan (September–December 2014).
He is a lecturer in the National SINPE Basic Course and for National FADOI in the areas of Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition.
He is also the author of numerous scientific publications and presentations.
