Prevention for osteopenia and osteoporosis
Book your prevention path for osteopenia and osteoporosis which goes from early diagnosis to specific treatment.
The Minihospital Sandro Pertini offers a prevention path that goes from early diagnosis to specific treatment.
Among the numerous pathologies that involve the osteo-articular system, osteopenia and osteoporosis afflict millions of people, with a great impact on both physical and psychological health.
Osteopenia is a condition in which bones are weaker than normal, but not weak enough to cause fractures. It is important to both prevent and diagnose it to prevent it from turning into osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a silent, very frequent pathology, especially in post-menopausal women, which presents with a decrease in bone density and therefore with an increased risk of fractures. It is therefore an important health problem that affects at least 5 million people in Italy, of which 80% are women.
Osteoporosis is often diagnosed late in patients when there is already severe bone damage, sometimes during spontaneous fractures.
Bone health is modulated and altered by genetic and biological factors, lifestyle, eating habits, alcohol and tobacco consumption.
The path is mainly indicated for:
- post-menopausal women, but there are numerous pathologies that impact bone health such as rheumatological, nephrological, metabolic, endocrinological, gastroenterological diseases.
- there are numerous patients of any sex and age on chronic therapy with potentially osteopenic drugs, including corticosteroids, hormonal therapies for breast and prostate cancer, immunosuppressants and antidepressant drugs.
- People who are familiar with osteoporosis
- Elderly who suffer bone loss with increasing age.
