He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa in the academic year 1974/75. He specialized in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Pisa with the highest honors in the academic year 1977/78. He further specialized in Audiology at the University of Florence with the highest honors in the academic year 1981/82. Finally, he specialized in Phoniatrics at the University of Padua with the highest honors in the academic year 1985/86.
