Dr. Lorenzo Fontanelli is a specialist in Neurology, with an academic education obtained at the University of Pisa with full marks and honors. He has gained solid clinical and research experience in the field of neuromuscular diseases, with particular attention to myotonic dystrophy type 1, spinal muscular atrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

During his specialization, he participated in internationally renowned clinical trials, such as CHAMPION-ALS, and developed multidisciplinary protocols for the early identification of respiratory involvement in patients with ALS. He also performed innovative treatments with drugs such as nusinersen and tofersen.
