I was born in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana in the province of Lucca. I am married to Eleonora and I am the father of two twin children, Adele and Leonardo Lazzeri, born in February 2018. I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa at the age of 24 with top honors, and I obtained my specialization in Ophthalmology with honors at the age of 29, also from the University of Pisa.

I have developed my career in ocular microsurgery mainly focusing on cataract surgery and the associated new technologies (Femtosecond Cataract Surgery, implantation of premium IOLs for astigmatism and presbyopia correction) and refractive surgery (correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) using the most modern surgical techniques (PRK, femtolasik, SMILE, and intraocular phakic lenses).

I have received training in experimental research with a second-level Master’s degree in clinical drug experimentation and a three-year PhD in Clinical and Translational Sciences.

For several years, I served as a consultant for the G.B. Bietti Foundation in Rome for Scientific Research, and I have published numerous articles in the world’s leading ophthalmology journals:

• 36 publications in indexed and impactful international journals
• 3 articles in the British Medical Journal as eLetters
• 5 publications in indexed national journals
• 6 Posters at International Congresses

My passion for my work has led me to carry out humanitarian missions in some African countries (Cameroon and Madagascar three times).

I have been a speaker at several national and international congresses, which have allowed me to receive two important awards for my work: “Best Paper 90 SOI National Congress” and “Best Paper 92 SOI National Congress”. I was a medical manager at Carlo Poma Hospital in Mantova for 4 years, and I currently hold the same position at San Giuseppe Hospital in Empoli.
