CT – Computerized Axial Tomography

The CT, or Computed Tomography, is an advanced medical imaging technique that uses X-rays and a computer to produce detailed images of various parts of the body. This type of imaging provides a cross-sectional view of the anatomical area being examined, allowing doctors to obtain high-resolution three-dimensional images of soft tissues, bones, and internal organs.

CT is widely used to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, including traumatic injuries, vascular diseases, tumors, infections, hemorrhages, and much more. The high-resolution images produced by CT allow doctors to accurately identify anomalies or changes in body tissues for precise diagnosis.

How is a CT scan performed?

During a CT scan, the patient is positioned on a table that moves inside a ring or open tunnel of the imaging equipment. The equipment emits X-rays from various angles as the table moves through the ring, acquiring multiple images of the anatomical area under examination.

The acquired images are then processed by a computer to produce a series of high-resolution cross-sectional images of the anatomical area under examination. These images can be displayed on a monitor and interpreted by radiologists and physicians to diagnose any medical conditions.

Useful information

CT is an important diagnostic resource that provides crucial information for the management and treatment of many medical conditions. Thanks to its ability to produce detailed and three-dimensional images of the body, CT is an essential technology in modern medical practices.

How to prepare?
Preparation for a CT scan depends on the part of the body being examined and specific instructions from the doctor or radiology technician. However, here are some general guidelines for preparing for a CT exam:

  1. Communicate any allergies.
  2. Make a list of medications.
  3. Follow fasting instructions.
  4. Wear comfortable clothing.
  5. Remove metallic objects.
  6. Drink fluids.
